Scotland has been the first foreign country we visited in August 1995.
We have selected some important spots of our trip :

1. Lake District (England)
2. Gretna, first Scottish town, famous for its runaway marriages.
3. Threave Castle and Gardens, fine example of a tower-house = fortified residence built in the 14th century.
4. Galloway Forest Park, one of the numerous Scottish natural parks.
5. Girvan, gorgeous little town, between mountains and sea : I loved it !
6. Coatbridge, a Glasgow suburb : it was so hot that we spent a whole day there swimming in a giant pool !
7. Glasgow.
8. Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, one of the more beautiful Scottish natural parks.
9. Loch Lomond, second longest inland water after Loch Ness, whose water is used (after treatment) for consumption by the City of Edinburgh.
10. The Trossachs, country of Rob Roy, the local hero (maybe you’ve seen the movie), is a deep rocky cut linking two lochs, among which Loch Katrine which provides 85 million gallons per day to Glasgow and its suburban surrounds.
11. Fort William, on Loch Lyhnne, next to the Ben Nevis.
12. Loch Ness and Urqhuart Castle.
13. Inverness (the battlefield of Culloden is located some miles away from it).
14. Nairn, where we attended traditional Highland Games.
15. Boat of Garten, where the small station hasn’t changed since 1863 and goes on operating two steam railways.
16. Wildlife Highland Park : we spent a whole day there, watching various animals living freely inside the park.
17. Blair Castle ( house of the Dukes of Atholl for six centuries), Pitlochry ( this Fish Ladder was created by man in order to allow the salmons to join Loch Faskally without crossing the dam) and Edradour Distillery, the smallest one in Scotland and the last where whisky is still hand-made.
18. Scone Palace, where the Kings of Scots used to be crowned.
19. Edinburgh.
20. Peebles = end of our trip, since it’s there that Dany broke his foot !
