Glencoe is located 17 miles south of Fort
William, in a breathtaking glen with jagged peaks incised on either side by cascading
water. Its name means "Glen of Weeping" : indeed the MacDonalds had cause to
weep when many of their clan were massacred in 1692 by King William's army.
