Inverness

Building opened in 1882. Fine example of the Victorian Gothic style by Inverness architect William Lawrie. The old mercat stands against the front wall with the Clah-na-Cuddain (Stone of the Tuss) at its base. This was where washerwomen would rest their tubs of washing on the way to and from the river. 149.jpg (23827 octets)
