Edinburgh
Edinburgh is Scotland's capital : until Union with
England in 1707, it was also the site of its Parliament.
| Perched high on an extinct volcanic
outcrop, Edinburgh Castle dominates the city. It was residence to many Scottish Kings and
Queens : as every of these occupants modified or added to the original structure, it is
today a rich architectural mixture of palace, fortress, barracks, chapel and war memorial. It is also the home of the Scottish Crown Jewels, the oldest
Royal Regalia in Britain. |
