Jack London Historic State Park                                       Wolf House Ruins.

"My house will be standing, act of God permitting, for a thousand years." Jack London, speaking of "Wolf House".

Construction of Jack London's home started in 1911. The 15,000 square-foot house had 26 rooms and 9 fireplaces. Built of unpeeled redwood logs, lava rocks and Spanish tiles, it cost between $ 40,000 and 75,000.

A month before the Londons were to move in, on August 22nd, 1913, fire destroyed the house. "It was a very quick fire", London said later. "We can not tell whether it was incendiary or not. The walls are standing and I shall rebuild." Jack London died in 1916, his reconstruction plans never realized.
