Called a tuff cone and created by a single explosive eruption of steam and ash approximatively 150,000 years ago, Diamond Head Crater is an almost perfect circle with a diameter of 3,520 feet.
It's been called "Diamond Head" since 1825, when British sailors found calcite crystals sparkling in the sun and mistakenly thought they were about to be very rich !
Native to South America, this cardinal has a distinctive red head, crest and throat while the back, wings and tail are gray. They are the first birds to sing in the morning and rest in trees high above the ground.
