In 1935, sugar was in its heyday and Gaylord P. Wilcox, head of Grove Farm Plantation, decided to build his dream house. He brought in the best architect : when completed, it would be the most expensive home ever built on Kaua'i. Thus was born the Wilcox estate, Kilohana.

Kilohana was the center of a 26,000 acre sugar tract and since 1888 has seved as the family homestead for many generations. The house itself has more than 15,000 square feet under roof.
The 35 acres of grounds offer not only beautiful gardens of native and imported flora, but also a working farm and century-old cottages.
