Lake Tahoe City
 | The name "Tahoe" comes from the Washoe Indian word "Da ow a
ga", meaning "Big Water". |
 | It was formed through the combination of faulting, volcanoes and glaciers. |
 | There are 37 trillions gallons of water in the lake : that's enough water
to cover an area the size of California to a depth of 14 inches. |
 | Because of its tremendous depth (3rd deepest lake in North America) and
size, the lake never freezes over. |

Fannette
: Lake Tahoe's
only island.
This sparsely timbered, brush covered upthrust of granite is believed to be a
resistant rib of rock which was overridden by the glacial ice that carved out
Emerald Bay.
